On the 2nd of September the DVSA published the updated guide for the top 10 reasons why learner drivers fail their driving test in Great Britain.

DVSA encourage you to use these examples with your pupils to identify any specific skills or knowledge gaps they may have. By focusing on these areas during your lessons, you can better prepare them so that they are ready to pass.

The top 10 reasons:

  1. Junctions (observation)
  2. Mirrors – (change direction)
  3. Move off (safely)
  4. Junctions (turning right)
  5. Response to signs (traffic lights)
  6. Control (steering)
  7. Response to signs (traffic signs)
  8. Response to signs (road markings)
  9. Positioning (normal driving)
  10. Use of speed
